The Leigh Matthews Trust has two stress and trauma centres which provide free stress, grief and trauma counselling to victims of crime and violence.

The 1st for Women Insurance Trust
supports the trauma centres and counselling to victims of crime and gender abuse.

Like the first Leigh Matthews Stress and Trauma Centre, which was established in Crosby, Johannesburg in October 2005, the Randburg centre is focused on providing trauma assistance to community members who would not otherwise be able to afford professional counselling to help them deal and cope with stress, trauma and grief as a result of being directly or indirectly affected by serious crime and violence.

Together, the trauma centres will support the South African Police Services' (SAPS) Serious Offences and Violent Crime Unit and any other police stations that require assistance with debriefing and counselling victims of crime.

The Leigh Matthews Trust also aims to address the growing need for adequately-trained counsellors by providing training opportunities for lay-counsellors at its trauma centres, as well service-learning opportunities for students.
